Two carved bluestone seats face each other across a circular portal at Jardine Park, on the Kelvin Peninsula, on the shore of Lake Whakatipu. When you sit down, the lake and the Remarkables frame the person opposite. The work is only finished when two people take their places.

It was commissioned by the Edgar family as a memorial to Sir Eion Edgar, and carries his daily greeting, "Another day in paradise," on a bronze marker set in the ground. Interlude is made of five stones of Timaru Bluestone, a basalt born in the Mount Horrible eruption and pulled from the quarry whole rather than blasted. It was drawn as one 35-tonne monument and built as five stones engineered into one. It was designed by the London studio Nebbia, and built by New Zealand stonemasons.
