Driving Creek, Coromandel
Ceramic artist Jaime Jenkins is designing and creating a ceramic Pae for a site at the incredible Driving Creek: pottery, railway, and conservation site.
Jaime writes:
"The brief of designing a Paererewā to last 1000 years has had me thinking about the necessity of humanity working together in all of our diversity. This pae is designed for people both young and old to either connect and converse or if sitting facing outwards absorb the wider surroundings in a more individual way but still from a place of connection.
A series of semi-square block-like ceramic forms, slab built in both a structural but rough/ relaxed way. I would like there to be a looseness about them and for their surfaces to show traces of the process. I would build them in a variety of heights ranging from approx 300mm to 500mm. The lower ones built proportionate to children so they can feel drawn in and included.
For the glazes, I would like to colour each block individually, drawing from and connecting to the surrounding environment."
